How do I upgrade my single-user license to the latest version if my maintenance is active?

Active maintenance entitles users to an assortment of benefits. One such benefit is free upgrades to all new versions throughout your maintenance period. To find out if your maintenance is active, see here.

Single user license on computer with internet access

  1. Start the program, then click File | Online | Check for Update.
  2. A window will appear stating that an upgrade is available.
  3. Click OK to start the upgrade process.

As long as you are under active maintenance, the latest version will run and there is no need to enter a product key. If you encounter any issues, contact us

 

 

Single user license on computer without internet access

Start the program, then click File | License Info.

If you see red text "Unable to contact the activation server" AND you can click on the Update offline button, follow these steps to update a computer that does not have access to the internet:

  1. After clicking the Offline update button, the Offline License Update window appears.  Your product key is automatically filled in to the Step 1 field.
  2. Click the link Create a License Update Request file.  Save the file, transfer it to an online computer, and email it to support@goldensoftware.com.
  3. You will receive a new license file by email.  Transfer the license file to the offline computer.
  4. Start the program, then click File | License Info.
  5. Click the Update offline button.
  6. Click the link Import the license file.  Locate the file that you received from Golden Software.
  7. Click the link Validate license.
  8. If you have a green check mark on the last step, then your license has been updated.
  9. Download the latest version of the program installer.
    1. Log in to My Account
    2. Click the My Products button.
    3. Locate the first 8 digits of your product key in the list, then click the arrow to expand the section. 
    4. Click the link Download <product> installer to download the product installer. 
  10. Transfer the installer file to your offline computer.
  11. Run the software installer and check the box to uninstall the previous version when prompted.

If you see red text "Unable to contact the activation server" AND the Update button cannot be clicked upon, follow these steps to update a computer that does not have access to the internet.

  1. Know your product key.
    1. You can find your Product Key in the original purchase email.
    2. Or, open the software and select menu File | License Info or Help | License Info
    3. Note the first 8 digits of the Product Key.
  2. Get an updated license that allows you to run the new version.
    1. Contact support@goldensoftware.com with your product key and ask for an updated license for an offline computer. 
    2. Our support team will email you an updated license file.
  3. Download the latest version of the program installer.
    1. Log in to My Account
    2. Click the My Products button.
    3. Locate the first 8 digits of your product key in the list, then click the arrow to expand the section. 
    4. Click the link Download <product> installer to download the product installer. 
  4. Transfer the license file (lservrc) and the installer to your offline computer.
  5. Update the license file.
    1. Double-click the lservrc file and click Notepad in the Open With dialog.
    2. Select all of the text and click Edit | Copy.
    3. Navigate to C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Roaming\Golden Software\Shared.
    4. Double-click the lservrc file in this location and click Notepad in the Open With dialog.
    5. Paste the copied license string to the end of this lservrc file.
    6. Click File | Save to save the changes.
  6. Run the software installer and check the box to uninstall the previous version when prompted.
