Increase the max size of the license manager usage log file

The default size for the Golden Software license manager usage log is 5MB (and has a minimum size of 1000B). For companies that have many concurrent users, this log size may be too small to capture all of the data needed. Below are steps detailing how to increase the size of the usage log on the license server.

Please note: This action could have an impact on other software's that are running on the license server - be aware that the changes made to the "Advanced System Settings" within Windows can cause unintended behavior in other software's.

Steps to increase the max size of the license manager usage log file:

  1. Sign on to the license server with a Windows user that has Administrator permissions

  2. Click Windows start and search for "Advanced System" and select Advanced System Properties (or similar)

  3. In the System Properties, select the Advanced tab (if not already selected)

  4. Click the Environment Variables... button

  5. The "System variables" are listed in the lower half of the dialog

  6. Click New...

  7. Enter the Variable name as "LSERVOPTS"

  8. Enter the Variable value as "-z 10m", where 10m indicates 10 MB.  Use a value that you are comfortable with.  There is no maximum other than your disk storage.  100 MB might be appropriate if you have many users

  9. OK > OK > OK.

  10. For the new file size to take affect, restart the Sentinel RMS License Manager service. This can be done by opening the Services console and restarting the service "Sentinel RMS License Manager", or simply reboot the license server.

Steps to revert the usage log back to default size of 5MB:

  6. Navigate to the system variable "LSERVOPTS" and highlight the row
  7. While highlighted, click the Delete button
  8. For the default file size to take affect, restart the Sentinel RMS License Manager service. This can be done by opening the Services console and restarting the service "Sentinel RMS License Manager", or simply reboot the license server
