    Hi Colin,

My apologies for the late response! Typically we find that the CPU has the biggest effect on processing speed. Are you using the trackball on 3D surface maps, or the 3D View? Surfer also requires a contiguous block of memory, so if you find it is processing slower than expected, restarting your computer can often make a difference.

    Thanks,

    Justine

    Hi Colin,

You could also try updating your NVIDIA driver. Sometimes newer drivers are more efficient with Surfer's requirements. You can download the new driver from their website: https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx.

It looks like the most recent driver for your card is from Jan 18, 2018.

    Thanks,
    Kari

Thanks for the replies. With dual 6-core processors and 128 GB RAM I don't see those as being limiting. I do have the latest Quadro drivers. Kari, sometime back, and I can't find where, I had made a similar query as this and you did say then that Surfer didn't play well with Quadro cards. So I was hoping that might be changing.

    Hi Colin,

Yes, in the past the NVIDIA Quadro drivers used to cause problems when viewing 3D data in Surfer (crashes, errors, etc). But I haven't seen that in a long time. I believe NVIDIA updated their drivers now, since we haven't had any recent problems (so I always check to be sure Quadro drivers are updated).

Barring that, I am not sure what the issue might be. I have only 16GB RAM and do not have a delay with a 3000x4000 surface. Perhaps it is related to other things in the SRF file? If you can, you are welcome to zip and email me an SRF file that you can see this with (or you can upload to our server) and I can try the same and we can compare. I am not sure what could cause the delay, but we may be able to figure it out.

    Thanks!
    Kari
