How can I get my favorite old colormap back into Surfer?

You may have noticed, with the release of Surfer 16, the preset colormaps have changed. Some of these colormaps were just renamed (see here for a list). If you were a big fan of one or more of the colormaps that are no longer included with Surfer 16, fear not, you can get them back!

  1. Download the attached Gradient_old.ini file.
  2. Open it in Notepad.
  3. Open the Gradient.ini file in Notepad as well (located in C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Roaming\Golden Software\Surfer\16).
  4. Copy the desired rows from the Gradient_old.ini file into the desired location in the Gradient.ini file.
  5. Click File | Save to save the Gradient.ini file.
  6. Close both instances of Notepad.

Now the colormaps will once again be listed in the Colormap dropdown list.

If you dislike all of the new colormaps and want all of the old ones back:

  1. Download the attached Gradient_old.ini file.
  2. Rename it Gradient.ini. Copy/paste this file into C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Roaming\Golden Software\Surfer\16, making sure to click Yes when asked if you want to overwrite the existing file.

Now the old colormaps will once again be listed in the Colormap dropdown list.
