Solutions to "Cannot Contact Update Server" error when opening Surfer

The error message "Cannot Contact Update Server" on an online computer typically indicates that security settings or a firewall are preventing the update EXE from connecting to the internet.

To fix this, you can ask your IT person to whitelist the GoldenSoftwareUpdate.exe file. Alternatively, you can disable Surfer from checking for updates, and then periodically download the installer for the updated software manually from My Account by following these instructions. To disable Surfer from checking for updates:

  1. Clicking File | Options.
  2. Clicking Updates in the pane on the left.
  3. Uncheck the boxes next to Automatically check for announcements and Automatically check for updates.
  4. Click OK.
