Grapher supports the addition of function of X (Y = F(X)) and function of Y (Y = F(X)) fit curves to line/scatter plots, step plots, polar plots, and histograms as well as to 3D ribbon/wall, step plots, and histograms; and to 3D XYZ line/scatter plots and XYZ bar charts.
You can add one of the many predefined fit curve types, or, type in your own equation for the fit curve. If you'd like to create your own equation for the fit, see Using a Custom Fit Curve in Grapher.

Step Plots with two linear fits
To add a predefined fit curve to your plot, complete the steps below. If you'd prefer a video, check out Grapher Fit Curves Training Video.
- Create the fit curve:
- Click on the Line/Scatter Plot in the Object Manager to select it.
- Click Home | Add to Graph | Fit Curve. By default, a linear fit will be added.
- Change the direction of the fit curve:
- Click on the new Linear Fit in the Object Manager to select it.
- In the Property Manager, click on the Plot tab.
- If desired, change the Fit direction by clicking over Y = F(X) and selecting X = F(Y).
- Changing the fit curve type:
- Change the Fit type field to your desired type. The available fit types are listed below. More information about each fit type can be found in Grapher's Help on the Available Fits page.
- Linear
- Log
- Exponential
- Power
- Spline Smoothing
- Polynomial
- Orthogonal Polynomial
- Through Origin
- Running Average
- Weighted Average
- LOESS (LOWESS)
- Reduced Major Axis
- Change the Fit type field to your desired type. The available fit types are listed below. More information about each fit type can be found in Grapher's Help on the Available Fits page.
To add a fit curve in Grapher 13, see the steps below:
