When I display my Grapher labels in another language, all I see are empty boxes. How can I see the text?

Grapher supports text being displayed in many different languages. But, not all fonts support all languages. Sometimes, the labels may display empty boxes instead of the text you are expecting. When this happens, you may need to change the font to see your text. How you change the font depends on how the text is located on the graph. Several methods are described below.

Axis Labels:

If the text appears as axis labels, use these steps to change the font:

  1. Click on the axis to select it.
  2. In the Property Manager, click on the Tick Labels tab.
  3. Click the + next to Major Labels, if needed.
  4. Click the + next to Font, if needed.
  5. Change the Face from the current font to one that supports your language. A good font to try is Arial or Arial Unicode MS. Depending on the language, another font may need to be selected. The labels should now appear on your axis.
  6. If you have minor labels, as well, click the + next to Minor Labels.
  7. Click the + next to Font, if needed.
  8. Change the Face to the same font selected for the major labels.

Axis Title:

If the text appears as an axis title, use these steps to change the font:

  1. Click on the axis to select it.
  2. In the Property Manager, click on the Axis tab.
  3. Click the Editor button next to Title.
  4. In the Text Editor, highlight all of the text to select it.
  5. Change the font drop-down list to the desired font, such as Arial or Arial Unicode MS. Depending on the language, another font may need to be selected. Click OK. The text should now appear on your axis title.
