Create a Variable Bar Chart With Stacked and Adjacent Bars in Grapher

1. Click the appropriate Home | New Graph | Bar | Vertical Bar Chart command.
2. Select the data file and click Open. The first bar chart is created.
3. In the Object Manager, click the Bar Chart to select it.
4. In the Plot tab of the Property Manager, verify that the Y variable column is assigned correctly.
5. Click Create in the New plot field until a bar has been added for each variable.
6. Adjust the other bar properties as desired.
7. Click the Groups tab.
8. Expand the Bar Charts section.  By default, each of the bar charts will be assigned to the same group (Group 1).
9. Click next to any bar chart you wish to be in a different group of stacked bars, and select New Group.
10. Click next to any remaining bars that belong in the second group and select Group 2. You now have two stacked bars with multiple variables adjacent to one another.
11. Repeat steps 9-10 for each additional group.

Once all the bars are in the appropriate groups, your graph will look something like:

Use Bar Groups to stack some bars and make other bars adjacent to them.

Create a graph showing adjacent bar charts for each category

1. Click the Home | New Graph | Bar command for your desired bar graph.
2. Select the data file and click Open. The first bar chart is created.
3. In the Object Manager, click the Bar Chart to select it.
4. In the Plot tab of the Property Manager, verify that the Y variable column is assigned correctly.
5. Click Create in the New plot field until a bar has been added for each variable.
6. Click Stacked in the Stacking field and select Adjacent.
7. Adjust the other bar properties as desired.
   
   1. If the bars do not display as adjacent, click on the Bar Groups tab.
   2. Expand the Bar Charts section, and assign the same Group to each bar chart.
