Add a Second X or Y Axis to a Graph in Grapher

To create a graph with multiple X axes and multiple Y axes, you can add additional axes to your graph. If you need to set multiple X and Y axes, you can also link them so they remain relatively positioned. Follow these steps to add an extra axis to your graph.

Create the first plot and first set of axes.

  1. Click any of the Home | New Graph commands to create your first graph.
  2. In the Open Worksheet dialog, select your data file and click Open.
  3. Make any changes to the Bar Chart 1, Y Axis 1, or X Axis 1, as desired. 

Add a new Y axis.

  1. Click anywhere on the graph to select it.
  2. Click the Graph Tools | Add to Graph | Axis | Y Axis command.
  3. In the Position Y Axis 2 dialog, set the location for the new Y axis.
    1. If you want the axis to the right of the existing graph: in the axis drop-down, select X Axis 1. Ensure that At the right of is selected. The new Y axis is created to the right of the existing graph.
    2. If you want the axis to the left of the existing Y axis: in the axis drop-down, select X Axis 1. Ensure that At the left of is selected. The new Y axis is placed directly on top of the existing Y axis.
    3. For more customized positioning, select Manual positioning or At data value of.
    4. Check the Flip tick marks and labels if the tick marks and labels should be on the opposite side of the axis.
    5. Check the Disable tick marks or Disable tick labels if the tick marks and/or labels should not be displayed.
    6. Click OK and the axis is added.
  4. Click on the Y Axis 2 to select it.
  5. If desired, change the Y position, X position, or Length. Or, use the options on the Link Axis tab to link the axis to an existing axis.

Add a new X axis.

  1. Click anywhere on the graph to select it.
  2. Click the Graph Tools | Add to Graph | Axis | X Axis command.
  3. In the Position X Axis 2 dialog, set the location for the new X axis.
    1. If you want the axis below the existing X axis: in the axis drop-down, select X Axis 1. Ensure that At the left of is selected. The new X axis is placed directly on top of the existing X axis.
    2. If you want the axis to the right of the existing X axis: in the axis drop-down, select X Axis 1. Ensure that At the right of is selected. The new X axis is placed to the right of the existing X axis.
    3. Check the Flip tick marks and labels if the tick marks and labels should be on the opposite side of the axis.
    4. Check the Disable tick marks or Disable tick labels if the tick marks and/or labels should not be displayed.
    5. Click OK and the axis is added.
  4. Click on the X Axis 2 to select it.
  5. If desired, change the Y position, X position, or Length. Or, use the options on the Link Axis tab to link the axis to an existing axis.
