Threshold value for watershed maps in Surfer

The Threshold (cells) value for Surfer's watershed map type controls the number of streams and basins that will be generated. The Threshold (cells) value is the number of upstream grid nodes that must flow into a particular cell before a stream line is created.

When the Threshold (cells) value is smaller, fewer cells are required to drain into a cell to create a stream and watershed basin. Therefore, many smaller watershed basins are created.

When the Threshold (cells) value is larger, more cells are required to drain into a cell for to create a stream and watershed basin. Therefore, fewer larger watershed basins are created.
