Always fill contours and show a color scale by default in Surfer

In most cases, if you're creating a contour map you will want to fill the contours and display and colormap legend.  By default, Surfer only displays the contour lines but this default can be changed if desired.

Change the Contour Fill and Color Scale default

  1. Click File | Defaults.
  2. In the Settings section, expand the Map Contour section.
  3. Select cFill (contours must be filled to show the color scale):
    1. Change the Setting value to Yes.
    2. Change the Setting persistence to Always reset.
  4. Select cColorScl:
    1. Change the Setting value to Yes.
    2. Change the Setting persistence to Always reset.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Click Yes to save the changes to the Surfer.set file.

Change the default Colormap

Changing the default colormap requires a CLR file name and path.  To save a preset or custom colormap to a CLR file, click Save in the Colormap Editor.

  1. Click File | Defaults.
  2. In the Settings section, expand the Map Contour section.
  3. Select cFillFgClr.
    1. In the Setting value field, enter the full file path to the CLR file you wish to use. For example: C:\Program Files\Golden Software\Surfer\Rainbow6.clr.
    2. Change the Setting persistence to Always reset.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Click Yes to save the changes to the Surfer.set file.
