The XY coordinates of your grid can be converted from from feet to meters using** Grids | Calculate | Transform**. Please note that if your grid file already has an associated coordinate system, reprojecting the grid file to a new coordinate system would be the preferred workflow. See How Can I Convert The Coordinate System Of A Grid File (E.G. From Lat/Long Into Feet Or Meters) Using Surfer?

To convert the units of a grid file without an assigned coordinate system, the first step is to translate the origin of the grid from feet to meters.

- Click
**Grids | Calculate | Transform**. - In the
**Grid Transform**dialog select your grid file by clicking the*Browse*button. Before you click*Open*, in the*Grid Info*area, note the*xMin*and*yMin*values. These are the coordinates of the origin in the original units, feet in this case. - Using a calculator or worksheet, divide these values by 3.28084. These are the new coordinates of the origin in meters.
- Find the difference between the coordinates of the origin in meters and the original coordinates in feet. This is the "offset".
- Click
*Open*. - In the
**Grid Transform**dialog, select*Offset*for the*Operation*. - Enter the offset calculated above for the
*X Offset*and*Y Offset*. - Click
*OK*.

The second step is to scale the rest of the coordinates in the grid file from feet to meters.

- Click
**Grids | Calculate | Transform**. - In the
**Grid Transform**dialog select your grid file by clicking the Browse button. - For the
*Operation*, choose*Scale*. The*Scale*option multiples the X and Y ranges by a factor. - For the
*X Scale*and*Y Scale*, enter 0.3048 (which is how many meters are in a foot). - Change the
*Output Grid File,*if you desire. - Click
*OK*and the transformed grid is created. This is the grid file in meters.
