To extend an existing polyline, you can select the polyline and use Didger's Draw | Reshape command. If you hold the CTRL key down and click, you can add nodes to the end of the polyline to extend it.

Another option to extend a polyline is to digitize the extension and then select both polylines and use Draw | Edit Boundaries | Connect Polylines.
