Didger does not currently support defining a map scale using a representative fraction such 1:24000. However, the map scale can be defined so that this scaling is applied. The map scale defined will depend on what your map units are. Follow the steps below to calculate the scale and define it for the map:
- Calculate the corresponding value for your map units (see below).
- Select Map in the Object Manager.
- In the Property Manager, go to the Scale tab.
- Enter the calculated X or Y scale value. For example, if you wanted 1:24000 and your map is in feet, you would enter 2000 to the right of Map units per in. for your X or Y scale.
Example Calculations:
- If your map is in units of feet, then a scale of 1:24000 is calculated as follows:
1:24000
1 inch = 24000 inches
1 inch = 2000 feet - If your map is in units of meters, then a scale of 1:24000 is calculated as follows:
1:24000
1 inch = 24000 inches
1 inch = 60960 centimeters
1 inch = 609.60 meters - If your map is in units of lat/long, then a scale of 1”24000 is calculated as follows:
1° of latitude is about 68.703 miles or 4353022 inches.
1 inch = 24000 inches
1 inch = 0.0055° latitude (Y Scale)
1 degree of longitude is 69.172 miles * cos(latitude). This is the same as 4382737.92 inches * cos(latitude). So find the latitude of the center of your map and insert it in the equation to find how much 1° of longitude is for your map. So if your central latitude value is 39.5°:
1° longitude is 4382737.92 inches * cos (39.5)
1° longitude is 3381828 inches.
1 inch = 24000 inches
1 inch = 0.007097° longitude (X Scale)
