In Didger 2, when I use File | Create Surfer Basemap, the text is missing.

If you go to File | Create Surfer Basemap in Didger 2 and the resulting base map in Surfer is missing the text, it may be because of the DXF export options that are saved in Didger. These settings make a difference because the Create Surfer Basemap command uses the same settings that exporting to a DXF file uses.

If you are using Didger 2 and not seeing any text when using the File | Create Surfer Basemap command, some things to check are:

1. Make sure that the DXF format in the Export Options is set to ASCII. Go to File | Export, choose to export to an AutoCAD DXF file and click Save. In the Export Options dialog box, be sure ASCII is the selected Format. If it is, you can click Cancel. If it is not, select ASCII and click OK. Then try the File | Create Surfer Basemap command.

2. Make sure that in the DXF Export Options dialog, All text as areas or Use Only Spatial Information  are not enabled. Go to File | Export, choose to export to an AutoCAD DXF file and click Save. In the Export Options dialog box, be sure these two options are not checked. If they are both unchecked, you can click Cancel. If one or both are checked, uncheck them and click OK. Then try the File | Create Surfer Basemap command.

3. Be sure the AutoCAD DXF File Compatibility is set to version 13. You can check this in the Didger.ini file located in the Didger installation directory (by default this is C:\Program Files\Golden Software\Didger2). Open Didger.ini in Notepad or WordPad. Scroll down to the section with the header [Options, GSODXF], about 2/3 the way down. Under that heading there is the File Compatibility option and it is set to either 13 or 14. This tells Didger what version of AutoCAD files to export. If it says File Compatibility = 13, just close the file. If it says File Compatibility = 14, change the 14 to a 13. Save the file and close it. Restart Didger and it will now export AutoCAD 13 DXF files. Then try the File | Create Surfer Basemap command.

Note that this only solves the problem of missing text when using the File | Create Surfer Basemap command (not File | Export).
