Yes, you can create custom symbols and use them in MapViewer if the symbol set you create is saved as a True Type Font TTF file (not unicode or double byte fonts).
There are many programs available that allow you to create symbols and save the symbol set to a True Type Font file [*.TTF]. We do not support these programs, but customers have found the following programs useful:
- TypeTool from FontLab
- CorelDraw
- FontForge (free)
- Softy (free)
- Surfer, Grapher, and MapViewer also use the symbol sets and Altersym editor from the DOS versions of Surfer and Grapher at the Golden Software web site.
Once you have the .TTF file, copy and paste the .TTF file into the Windows Fonts folder (C:\Windows\Fonts). Once the font is installed on your computer, you can use the symbols within that font in MapViewer.
