Class scatter plots group data into bins and assign different properties—such as symbol style or color—to each bin. In Grapher, you can customize symbol properties based on class, bin, or specific data values. Class values can be either numeric or text-based.
- Click the Home | New Graph | Class/Bubble | Class Scatter Plot command.
- Select the worksheet and click Open.
- Click on the new class scatter plot in the Object Manager.
- In the Property Manager, click on the Plot tab.
- Ensure that the X variable, Y variable, and Class variable are set to the desired columns.
- Click the Edit button next to the Classes command.
- In the Edit Classes dialog, change the Number of classes to the desired number of discrete classes.
- Set the class method:
-
- For numeric classes: change the Method to "Equal number."
- For text classes: change the Method to "Name".
-
- To adjust the symbol size or other symbol properties for all classes at once, click the Symbol Sizes... or Classes Symbol... buttons in the Edit Classes dialog.
- To change the symbol properties associated with any one class, double-click on the class name in the Class Name column and then edit these properties in the Properties dialog.
- When all classes have the desired symbol, color, and size, click OK. The plot will update each class with the symbol you selected.
