Can I open a Surfer grid file in Excel and see the XYZ values?

You can convert any grid to an XYZ text file and open it in any text editor, in the Surfer worksheet, or in Excel (as long as you don't exceed Excel's row limitations of 65,535 rows in Excel 97-2003 or 1,048,576 in Excel 2007).

To do this:

  1. Click Grids | Edit | Convert.
  2. In the Open Grid dialog, select your grid file and click Open.
  3. In the Save Grid As dialog, give your output file a name, change the Save as type to DAT XYZ grid (*.dat) and click Save.

You can open the DAT file like any other text file.
