Create and use custom symbols in Surfer
You can create custom symbols and use them in Surfer if the symbol set you create is saved as a True Type Font TTF file (not a unicode or double byte font file).
There are many programs available that allow you to create symbols and save the symbol set to a True Type Font file [*.TTF]. We do not support these programs, but some of our customers have found the following programs useful:
- TypeTool from FontLab
- CorelDraw
- FontForge (free)
- Softy (free)
- Surfer, Grapher, and MapViewer also use the symbol sets and attached AlterSym editor from the DOS versions of Surfer and Grapher.
Once you have the .TTF file, copy and paste it into the Windows Fonts folder (C:\Windows\Fonts). With the font installed on your computer, you can use the symbols in that font in Surfer.
If you would like to edit the symbols in Surfer directly, please let us know!
