Can I make 3D surface maps transparent in Surfer?

Yes, you can make surface maps transparent. The opacity option to control the transparency is available in the colormap settings for the surface.

3D surface map with partial opacity

Surfaces can be transparent relative to each other and other objects. In this example, the rectangle is behind the partially transparent surfaces.

To apply opacity to 3D surfaces, follow these steps:

  1. Select one of the 3D surface layers.
  2. In the Properties window, on the General tab, under the Material Color section, click the Custom Colormap button (...) to the right of Upper.
  3. Change the Opacity value for the color(s) of the surface.
  4. Click OK, and the opacity is applied to the layer.

Use the opacity option in the Colormap properties to control the opacity for the surface.
