When I import a grid or base map file from another program into Surfer, does it import the projection information?

If the grid or base map file imported into Surfer also has a coordinate system reference file (e.g. PRJ, AUX.XML) or embedded coordinate system information (e.g. GeoTIFF, GeoPDF, etc), Surfer will automatically read the reference information and apply it to the map layer.

If the grid or base map file does not have a reference file or embedded information, then the coordinate system for the layer is set to “Unreferenced local system”. Click the Set button to manually specify the source coordinate system for the layer.
