This error can occur when attempting to save a grid file, such as TutorWS.grd when working through the Tutorial:
"Surfer Error
Unable to write C:\Program Files\Golden Software\Surfer\Samples\TutorWS.grd"
This error indicates that you do not have permission to write to the directory specified, in this case the Program Files directory. This can happen when you are not logged in to the computer with Administrator rights.
To work around this error, you can try:
- Run Surfer as an administrator when you first open the application. To do this, right-click over the Surfer desktop icon or shortcut and click Run as Administrator. That will run Surfer in “administrator mode” and may allow you to save to the Program Files directory.
- Change the Output Grid File path in the Grid Data dialog to a location where you do have read/write permissions (e.g. the desktop or your documents).
