How can I load an Access MDB or ACCDB file in Grapher?

Grapher does have direct open and import for the Access database MDB and ACCDB formats. To reference the MDB or ACCDB file directly:

  1. Click the appropriate Graphs | Create command to create a plot directly from ACCDB file.
  2. In the Open dialog, select the MDB or ACCDB file and click Open.
  3. In the Database Tables and Fields dialog,
    1. Select the table or query to load on the top left side of the dialog.
    2. Select the desired fields to load on the top right side of the dialog.
    3. Click OK.

This links the plot directly to the MDB or ACCDB file. When the database changes, the graph can be quickly updated with the changes by clicking the Graphs | Worksheet | Reload command.

To import a table into a new worksheet:

  1. Click the File | New | Worksheet command to create a new blank worksheet.
  2. Click the File | Import command.
  3. In the Import Data dialog, select the MDB or ACCDB file and click Open.
  4. In the Database Tables and Fields dialog,
    1. Select the table or query to load on the top left side of the dialog.
    2. Select the desired fields to load on the top right side of the dialog.
    3. Click OK.

The data is loaded into the worksheet. You can save the worksheet by clicking the File | Save As command. This new worksheet is completely separate from the original database file. You can create a graph from the new unlinked worksheet, but the graph will not update when the database changes.

Note: If you have a 64-bit version of Grapher installed and a 32-bit version of Access installed, the above steps will result in an error message. The same bit version must be used for both Access and Grapher in order to open the MDB or ACCDB file correctly. If different bit versions of the programs are installed, an error message will appear. Click OK on the error message and exit Grapher. Install the appropriate version of either Grapher or Access and try the process again.
