Prevent incorrect map scale and stretched axis labels when resizing a map in Surfer
Stretching a map by selecting it and dragging the sides is not recommended for changing the map size. To resize a map, either change the map scale, or, by selecting the map and dragging the corners. By changing the map scale instead of stretching the map, the axis labels will not be stretched and the map scale bar will match the scale of the map.
To change the scale of the map, follow these steps:
- Select Map in the Contents window.
- In the Properties window, click the Scale tab.
- Specify the Map units per in. or Length (page units) of the X Scale and/or the Y Scale.
- *Note* If you do not want a proportional map (i.e. you do not want all XY(Z) scales changing together), uncheck the box next to Proportional XY scaling.
Otherwise, selecting the map and dragging the corners will maintain correct scaling.
If you did stretch the sides of the map so that the map scale bar is incorrect or the axis labels are stretched, you can "undo" the stretching by selecting the map, clicking Home | Selection | Transform, checking the box next to Identity (Clear Transforms) and clicking OK. This will reset all values to the appropriate defaults.
