How do I prevent the axis labels from stretching, or my scale bar from being incorrect, when I resize my Surfer map?

Stretching a map by selecting it and dragging the sides or corners is not recommended for changing the map size. To resize a map, we recommend changing the map scale. By changing the map scale instead of stretching the map, the axis labels will not be stretched and the map scale bar will match the scale of the map.

To change the scale of the map, follow these steps:

  1. Select Map in the Contents window.
  2. In the Properties window, click the Scale tab.
  3. Specify the Map units per in. or Length (page units) of the X Scale and/or the Y Scale.
    • *Note* If you do not want a proportional map (i.e. you do not want all XY(Z) scales changing together), uncheck the box next to Proportional XY scaling.

If you did stretch the map so that the map scale bar is incorrect or the axis labels are stretched, you can "undo" the stretching by selecting the map, clicking Home | Selection | Transform, checking the box next to Identity (Clear Transforms) and clicking OK. This will reset all values to the appropriate defaults.
