Yes, there are two methods for saving contour fill and level information in Surfer. This first method, a CLR file, saves the contour fill colors and their distribution across the data range. This file type does not save specific contour level information but is more dynamic in that it can be applied to any contour map regardless of the range of Z data. To save a CLR file, complete the steps below.
- Click the Contours layer in the Contents window.
- In the Properties window, click the Levels tab.
- Click the ellipses button in the Fill colors field.
- In the Colormap Editor, adjust the Color Mapping and Opacity Mapping as desired.
- Click Save.
- In the Save As dialog, enter the File name of the CLR file and click Save.
The second method, an LVL file, save both the contour fill colors and the specific Z levels defined across the data range. Because this file type associates fill properties with specific Z levels, it is not as dynamic as a CLR file but it does ensure that the contour fill properties are applied in exactly the same way to every map. To save a LVL file, complete the steps below.
- Click the Contours layer in the Contents window.
- In the Properties window, click the Levels tab.
- Set the Level method to Advanced.
- Click the Edit Levels button.
- In the Levels for Map dialog, change any of the contour parameters, including the contour levels, line properties, fill properties, contour labels, and hachure information. Additional information about the advanced level properties can be found in the help here.
- After the settings are what you want to save, click the Save button.
- In the Save As dialog, enter a File name for the level file and click Save.
To use a level file with any contour map, click the Load button in the Levels for Map dialog. All contour maps using the level file must have comparable Z data ranges, otherwise contour lines and fill will not appear on the map.
