Use the Grids | Calculate | Calculus command to retrieve the direction and magnitude information from a 1-grid vector map using the steps below:
- Export the direction/angle data.
- Click Grids | Calculate | Calculus,
- In the Grid Calculus dialog, click Browse in the Input Grid field to select your grid file.
- Choose Terrain Modeling | Terrain Aspect.
- For the Output Grid, click the yellow open folder button and change the Save as type to DAT XYZ and click Save.
- Click OK. The DAT file will be created with the X, Y and angle data. This data will be in the downhill direction.
- Export the magnitude data.
- Click Grids | Calculate | Calculus.
- In the Grid Calculus dialog, click Browse in the Input Grid field to select your grid file.
- Choose either Terrain Modeling | Terrain Slope or Differential & Integral Operator | Gradient Operator.
- For the Output Grid File, click the yellow open folder button and change the Save as type to DAT XYZ and click Save.
- Click OK. The DAT file will be created with the X, Y and magnitude data.
- Combine the data.
Open the two DAT files in the Surfer worksheet using File | Open in Worksheet. One has XY-Angle information and one has XY-Magnitude information. Copy Column C from one data file and paste it into Column D in the other data file, so that all data is in one file. Click File | Save As to resave the combined data.
