Error saving file to network drive: "Access to (file path).srf denied. Module Surfer, File ERROR.CPP"

The "Access denied" error occurs when attempting to save a file on a network drive when the network is using aggressive file locking. Novell has documented this problem with older versions when saving Excel files, and has released a patch to resolve the problem. Other network operating systems may show the same error. Contact your network administrator or network vendor for information on changing the file locking setting.

One way to work around the problem is to enable the Surfer option to save a backup copy of the SRF file with the File | Preferences or Tools | Options (Surfer 9 to 13). Click on General, and check the check box on the right for the option to Backup files before saving.

Other methods include:

  1. Save the file to a different file name on the network.
  2. Save to the local hard drive.
