This problem can occur due to conflicts with other software running at the time. Programs we have seen that cause a conflict include:
- PC Anywhere
- MATLAB Server
- GoToMyPC
- V3 2002 (a virus checker)
Please close and exit these programs and then try to start Surfer.
If closing the above programs does not resolve the behavior, or if you are not running those applications, there could be a conflict with another application running on the computer. Please exit all other running applications (including ones in the system tray such as messenger programs, antivirus software, etc), reboot the computer and then try running Surfer. If that works, add the programs one by one until you find the one that causes Surfer not to open.
Another alternative is to boot the computer in Safe Mode and then try to open Surfer. If it opens, this indicates that it is another running process or driver on the system that is causing the conflict.
If you find a conflict with another software program not listed above, please let us know by emailing surfersupport@goldensoftware.com.
