I have a TIF file that contains Z values. How do I load it into Surfer so it reads the Z data?

If you have a GeoTIFF file that contains Z values (such as an SRTM DEM file in GeoTIFF format), you can use this file directly in place of a grid file wherever a grid file is used. This function is only available in Surfer versions 9 and higher. Surfer 8 and previous versions of Surfer ignore any Z data in an image file and you can only load it as a base map.

For example:
  1. Click Home | New Map | Contour
  2. In the Open Grid dialog select All Files from the Files of type drop down menu.
  3. Select the TIF file and click Open. The contour map is created from the TIF file.
