In Surfer, a custom level file (LVL) contains information about specific lines and colors for a contour map or wireframe map. For a contour map, the LVL file contains information about contour levels, line properties, color fill, label frequency, and hachure information. A wireframe LVL file contains information for the Z level line properties and color zone line properties. Once the level settings are customized in Surfer, you can save the settings to a file to be used on future maps.
For information on the specific LVL file format to create one from scratch, see the Help page Level File Format.
