Save time with templates in Grapher

If you regularly create multiple graphs with the same settings and properties, you can create templates in Grapher!

To create a template in Grapher:

  1. Create one or more graphs and customize as desired.
  2. Click the File | Save As command.
  3. In the Save As dialog, change the Save as type to Plot Template (*.grt).
  4. Give the template file a name and click Save.

To use the template to create graphs from different data files:

  1. Click File | Open.
  2. In the Open dialog, select the template file and click Open.
  3. In the next dialog (name is dependent on objects in the template), select the first data file you wish to plot.
  4. If there is just one data file to use, check the box at the very bottom of the dialog next to Use this worksheet for remaining items.

Check the box to use this worksheet for all curves in the template.

  5. Click Open
  6. Repeat steps 3 and 5 for any remaining items, if multiple data files will be used.
  7. The graph(s) are created from the chosen data file(s).
  8. To save the project with the new data,
    1. Click the File | Save As command.
    2. In the Save As dialog, select Grapher File (*.grf) or Grapher Project (*.gpj) in the Save as type field.
    3. Type in a File name for the new Grapher file.
    4. Click the Save button. This saves a new graph with the data and all of the formatting from the original template, without saving over the template file.
