The Surfer Colors list displays many predefined colors for you to choose from. There is not a way in the user interface to change the order of the items in this list, or to add your own colors, however, you can do this by editing the Colors.ini file that ships with Surfer.
All the predefined colors in the Colors list are saved in the Colors.ini file, located in C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Golden Software\Surfer.
To rearrange the presets in the Colors list:
- Open the Colors.ini file in a text editor, like Notepad++.
- Select all the lines for the colors that you want to move. For example, the example below shows selecting the predefined blues:
- Click Edit | Cut.
- Delete the empty line and then place your cursor at the beginning of the line you want those colors to be on.
- Press ENTER to add a new, empty line, and then place your cursor on that line.
- Click Edit | Paste to paste in the information.
- Click File | Save and resave the file.
- Restart Surfer and the preset colors will be in the new order.
To add a new preset color:
- Open the Colors.ini file in a text editor, like Notepad++.
- Put your cursor at the beginning of the line you want the new color to be on and press ENTER.
- Put your cursor in the empty line and enter the color information. This includes the color name followed by = and the RGBA values for the desired color.
- Click File | Save and resave the Colors.ini file.
- Restart Surfer and the new preset will be included in the drop down menu.
