I downloaded the trial but it's asking for a product key. How can I fix this?

If you have previously downloaded and installed the Surfer 16 trial on your laptop, you will be unable to do so again. The trial begins as soon as you've installed the software, and you can only use the trial once.

If this is the first time you're installing the demo, and you have installed it within the past 2 weeks, if you're being prompted for a product key or the trial is unavailable, the program was not able to save the trial license to the appropriate location. This is likely due to limited permissions or security software blocking the file creation. Please send us the information below and we can generate a new trial license for you.

  • Click the Create support file link in the bottom right hand corner of the Enter Product Key or Licensing dialog. Save this file to your desktop or other desired location.

  • Navigate to C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Local\Temp and locate the Surfer_16_installer_log.txt or the Grapher_13_installer_log.txt or the Strater_5_installer_log.txt. Save this file to the same location as the support file above.


Attach both of these files in your email to us so we have all of the information we need to generate a new trial license for you.
