Why do I get an "error communicating with server" error every time I try to access the National Atlas Server?

The NAIP Color Imagery for US server was moved to a new location in 2016.  As a result, the default location defined in Surfer 12 and early versions of Surfer 13 is no longer accurate. The availability of this server seems to be intermittent at times; imagery may now be available to download at all times.

The new server is a secure server. Surfer 12 does not support secure servers, so this server will no longer work in Surfer 12.

The server URL was updated in the last version of Surfer 13. Please click Help | Check for Update in Surfer 13 to be sure you are using the last version of Surfer 13.

If you want to continue using an earlier version of Surfer 13 and not update to the current version, you can edit the URL to point to the new server:

  1. In the Download Online Maps dialog, right-click a major category and click Add.
  2. In the Add Map Source dialog, enter a name for the new server in the Name field.
  3. Enter this URL into the URL field:
  4. Click Validate.
  5. Click OK when the Server validated message is displayed.
