By default, a color scale in Surfer is oriented vertically. To rotate the color scale so it is horizontal, follow these steps:

1. Select the color scale in the Contents window.
2. Click Layout | Arrange | Free Rotate | Rotate.
3. Enter -90 into the Rotate dialog and click OK.
4. If desired, on the General page in the Properties window, in the Labels section, change the Angle to 90.
